The Best Foods for All-Day Energy

Of course, all food is for energy. But that doesn’t mean all foods are created equal when it comes to their enhancing powers. Energy-boosting foods are also metabolism-boosting foods: foods that support our bodies’ abilities to convert food into energy.

Stock up on these superfoods and watch your energy rebound.

Brown Rice

Brown rice isn’t just packed with complex carbs. It’s a top source of magnesium, too. If you work out, it’s even more important as a diet low in magnesium can zap the quality of your workout, causing you to tire more easily. Just 1 cup of cooked brown rice delivers more than a quarter of the magnesium women require in a day and a fifth the amount that men need.[1]

Eggs provide basic nutrition staples such as protein, iodine, vitamins B6 and B12. Also, eggs are a great way to build energy while getting an adequate serving of protein. [2]

This fatty fish is packed full of omega-3 fatty acids. These anti-inflammatory fats help protect your brain cells and can even boost brain function. Add salmon, or other fatty fish, to your diet at least two to three times per week to see benefits. Other sources of omega-3 include walnuts, flax seeds, hemp seeds, and chia seeds. [3]

Dark chocolate

We’re talking really dark here. If you’re eating chocolate for energy, you want the highest cacao concentration possible. That’s because cacao has nutrients that fight stress and boost energy and focus. Dark chocolate also contains a kick of caffeine, which helps to boost energy levels quickly.[4]

Remember not to rely on one specific food for your energy needs. Give your body an array of foods as each has its own nutritional profile so you need to broaden it by eating a variety of foods.
